18 Year Old Palestinian Girl Murdered in Hebron by Israeli Forces

18-year old Hadeel al-Hashlamon was shot dead by Israeli forces and left to bleed to death before Israeli soldier's allowed medics to reach her. Hadeel was shot several times by Israeli soldiers on Tuesday Morning in the old city of Hebron. A spokesperson for the Shaare Zedek Medical Center where she was taken for treatment said the teenager was “terribly injured, and underwent surgery upon her arrival.” She later died from her injuries, the spokesperson confirmed.

Israeli official narratives conflate with eyewitness reports on the ground. The Israeli army claimed that Hadeel was shot after she tried to stab a solider, the Tel Aviv newspaper Haaretz reported. However the organization, Youth Against Settlements, released photos showing Hadeel posed no serious threat to the soldiers.

Local Palestinian media also confirmed that Israeli soldiers shot Hadeel after she refused to open her purse and lift her face veil.
“She did not have a knife,” said the activist, Issa Amro. “She was murdered in cold blood and was not a threat to the soldiers.”

With the latest death, at least 25 Palestinians have been killed by Israel forces since the beginning of 2015, according to U.N. figures.

Tweets about the story:

Hadeel’s murder is not an isolated case. Earlier last week, the army killed 21-year-old Diyaa Abdul-Halim Talahmah during a raid in Hebron in the village of Khursa. The Israeli army claimed Diyaa died while throwing an improvised explosive device that exploded prematurely. According to reports from Ma’an news Palestinian officials and a local popular committee spokesman, Ratib al-Jubour, said that Israeli forces shot dead Diyaa, which was verified by medical officials.

Hadeel’s murder also sheds light again upon the connections between extrajudicial killings of African American youth in the United States and Palestinian youth by Israeli soldiers. IDF soldiers and American police continue to act with impunity and more needs to be done to protect the lives of innocent civilians around the world. In order to do so we must see the dismantlement and demise of colonial and settler colonial structures, which continue in their legacy of racist ideological views.
